Ballot curing

Fixing a problem — usually a missing or mismatched envelope signature — so a ballot that would have been rejected gets counted.

California created cure rights for missing signatures (2015) and mismatched signatures (2018). Only the voter can cure their own ballot. For regular statewide elections, AB 827 (2025, in force from 2026) sets the cure window at 22 days past Election Day.
